OACny Organizes Community Improvement Projects in NYC
for Sixth Annual Day of Impact

New York City — Open Architecture / New York (OACny) is hosting its sixth annual Day of Impact on October 5, 2019. The dedicated day of service brings professionals in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry together to leverage their skills for the benefit of local communities.

This year, OACny is engaging local communities by partnering with five of New York City’s leading volunteer-based organizations and nonprofits. Participants from top design, engineering and construction firms around the city will donate their time to help with a variety of community improvement projects including painting a school interior, planting bulbs at a LES garden, composting perennial hedgerows at a farm on Randalls Island, and beautifying parks in LIC and the Bronx.

Firm-sponsored teams include volunteers from Ennead Architects, HOK, Spacesmith, Taliesen Construction and TPG Architecture. Individual volunteer slots are still available through the organization’s Evenbrite page

“It’s very rewarding to see the same firms and partner organizations participating year after year,” says Vanessa Lacayo, OACny’s Director of Membership. “We are proud to collaborate with previous Day of Impact partners Publicolor, the Lower East Side Ecology Center and Hunters Point Park Conservancy and looking forwarding to new partnerships this time around with Project Eats and Urbanpathways.

“Volunteers have been the lifeblood of Publicolor since 1996,” says Catherine B. Stein, Special Projects Manager at Publicolor. “We treasure your generous giving spirit and can’t do our work without you.”

“Day of Impact embodies what our organization is all about. The event allows our chapter to tackle multiple projects simultaneously, engage with dozens of volunteers, and connect with like-minded organizations throughout New York City,” says Christina Esser, OACny’s Managing Director. “I am always inspired by the dedication of our board. These individuals put so much of their time and effort into ensuring the success of each event. We are grateful for the continued support of participating firms.”

Follow OACny’s social media channels for live updates during the events: @openarch_NY (Twitter), @openarch_NY (Instagram) and @oacny (Facebook).

OACny is committed to activating NYC neighborhoods through a collaborative design process with special projects throughout the year in addition to its annual volunteer Day of Impact. Day of Impact coincides with a larger month-long celebration of architecture and design in NYC called Archtober.
